My personal belief statement:THE BIBLE
I believe that the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired Word of God, infallible, God-breathed, and inerrant in the original manuscripts; that the Bible is the supreme and final authority in all matters of faith and life. (2 Timothy 3:16)GOD
I believe in one God eternally in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; that God is omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, immutable, infinitely holy, and the Creator and Sustainer of all things; that the Persons of the Triune God are co-equal in being, co-identical in essence, and co-equal in power and glory. (Psalm 139; John 1:1-4; Isaiah 44:6)JESUS CHRIST
I believe Jesus Christ, the unique Son of God, was manifest in the flesh, begotten by the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary; that He was and is both true God and true man. (Matthew 1:23; John 1:1-14)I believe Jesus entered the world to redeem man by His death on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice and that my salvation is by being justified in the sight of God; that Christ’s bodily resurrection from death and the shedding of His blood were absolutely necessary for my justification. (John 3:16-17; Romans 3:23-24)I believe the Lord Jesus Christ ascended to Heaven where He is now exalted at the right hand of the Father, and where He, as our High Priest, intercedes for believers. (Acts 1:9; Hebrews 4:14-16)THE HOLY SPIRIT
I believe that all who receive Jesus Christ as personal Savior are born again into the family of God by the regenerating and renewing power of the Holy Spirit; and that the Holy Spirit dwells within every believer to guide us into all truth, to lead us in life, and to empower and enable us in testimony and service. (John 14:15-18; John 16:7-14; Romans 8:9-11)SALVATION
I believe that salvation is a gift of God which is unmerited and which cannot be earned by ceremony or good works; that salvation must be received by faith in the death and bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ resulting in a turning away from the sinful way of life; that only God knows the true condition of man’s heart. (Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 10:9-10; 1 John 3:20)
THE DEPRAVITY OF MAN
I believe that mankind was created in the image of God and in His likeness; but that in Adam’s sin, mankind fell, inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God; that all men and women are sinners by both nature and practice, and that mankind is utterly unable to remedy this lost condition without Jesus Christ. (Genesis 1:26; Genesis 3; Isaiah 59:2; Romans 3:10-18; Romans 3:19)
PERSEVERANCE OF THE SAINTS
I believe that all who have accepted God’s gift of salvation are kept by the power of God until they receive their glorified bodies at the rapture of the saints. (Philippians 1:6; 1 John 3:2)
INTERPRETATION OF SCRIPTURES
I believe that the Scriptures should be interpreted literally, that is, in the normal sense in which the words are used. I believe that the whole of Scripture is completely consistent with its parts and that its parts should be interpreted in the light of the Scriptures as a whole.
THE RETURN OF JESUS CHRIST
I believe in the personal, physical, imminent, second coming of Jesus for His saints and in His pre-millennial return to the earth with His saints to rule the nations of the earth in peace for one thousand years. (Matthew 24; Revelation 20)
ORDINANCES
I believe in the two ordinances of the Church given by the Lord Jesus; water baptism symbolizing our identification with the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ; and the Lord’s Supper observed in remembrance of His sacrificial death until He comes. (Matthew 28:19-20; Romans 6:3-5; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
CHURCH
I believe that Jesus Christ instituted the Church, which is composed of persons whom He has saved, to whom He gives spiritual life, in whom He dwells, to whom and through whom He reveals God. (Matthew 16:18; 1 Corinthians 1:2)
The local church is composed of those persons who assemble voluntarily and in accordance with Christ’s commandments for the purposes of worship, education, evangelism, service, and fellowship. (Acts 2:42-47)
